Unit 3: Exercise – Assign Licenses to Users

Step 1: Create a New User

Path: Identity → Users → All Users → + New user

Verify that Chris Green appears in the user list.

Step 2: Create a Security Group

Path: Identity → Groups → All groups → + New group

This group can now be used for permission and license assignments.

Step 3: Assign a License to the Group

• Open Microsoft 365 Admin Center → Billing → Licenses.
• Select a product (e.g., Microsoft 365 E3).
• Choose Groups → + Assign license → Marketing group → Assign.

Effect: All members of Marketing automatically receive the assigned license.

Restoring or Removing a Deleted User

• Deleted users remain in a soft-deleted state for 30 days.
• Within this window, admins can restore the user and all their attributes.

Required Roles:

• Global Administrator
• User Administrator
• Partner Tier 1 or 2 Support

After 30 days, deletion becomes permanent.
